In defense of incarnations
Webster’s defines incarnation in several ways: as an actual quality or concept (love the concreteness of this), as the union of humanity and Jesus (love the synthesis this implies), but the definition I adhere to is the opposite of both. Incarnation defined as “a particular physical form or state.” To wit, a version.
Which, to me, is exactly what life is. Neither concrete nor unified. Multifaceted. Layered. Complicated, messy, deep. All of us have many iterations of ourselves, most of which we don’t even notice. But I encourage you to do so. Peel back the onion that is you, see what’s there. Check it out, explore.
I try to live by this creed. Sometimes I’m disappointed, other times pleasantly surprised. But I’ve never regretted trying to do this. Or that. Or the other thing.
This site pulls together some of my incarnations, and I’ve noticed a theme. I like to build, to fashion things together— a story, a lesson, a design, a business. And when I’m engaged in these activities, I’m creating more than just a thing. I’m building a life. Join me, won’t you?
